Information: Raleigh Rays at Durant Trails (Final Swim Meet)

Hello Lifetime Raleigh Rays!

The Durant Trails Typhoons look forward to hosting their LAST dual swim meet on Tuesday, July 18th.  A couple of quick things about their pool:

The pool is very shallow at one end; therefore, on 100-yard relays, they request that the kids start in the water during the breast and free legs of the medley relay and the 2nd and 4th position of the free relay.  Coaches, please explain this information to the swimmers.

  •  the pool has 6 lanes and is 25 yards long.
  •  the pool has deck lighting and is licensed to operate at night.
  •  the pool has starting blocks.
  • The team had 110 swimmers in 2022 and 109 swimmers this year.
  • Timing System Used: Dolphin Timing System

Address

3010 Hiking Trail
Raleigh, NC 27615 Parking

--DT tries to leave the parking lot open for the visiting team, but it is a relatively small lot, so some of our families will probably have to park on the surrounding streets in the neighborhood. Please remind them to follow normal parking rules. Be mindful not to park at the base of driveways of the homes near the pool and not to park too close to the corners of the streets that intersect the pool.

Food

-DT will have a fairly extensive concessions stand with everything from kielbasa to hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ and pizza, chips, drinks, and candy. In addition, Kona Ice will be selling cool treats. They take Venmo and, of course, cash.

Deck space and Seating

--Durant has a relatively small deck, and it often becomes crowded rather quickly. Durant has some deck chairs, but not many. Therefore, please bring your own bag chairs. Our team will utilize the side with the blue canopy (as you enter the pool deck, go left)

Meet management

The pool 6-lane pool with lights, bolted, and secure dive blocks. We will try to keep things running well and get everybody home at a reasonable hour.  We will use the Dolphin Timing System. That said, their pool has upgraded the wifi and shoud have an upgraded modem installed by then, but their timing system still may require an ethernet connection and disabling wifi to keep up. Our meet administrator/scorer volunteer will need to bring a laptop with an ethernet port or hotspot (we do have ethernet connectors if needed). Both teams will combine relays where possible. To avoid confusion/errors in the timing system, however, we will need to try and make combination and lane assignment decisions by Sunday at noon. We are going to need a timer in each lane and assistant writing times as a precautionary backup if there is an issue with the system.

Timeline

--Our warm-ups for the evening can begin at 5:30, and the volunteer meeting in the clubhouse around 5:40. This being our last home meet of the season, DT wants to take a few minutes after the national anthem to recognize their senior swimmers and then begin our meet with the medley relays.

As the summer swim season draws to a close, I wanted to take a moment to express how much of a pleasure it has been serving as your TSA Representative. Witnessing the dedication and passion of each member of our team has been truly inspiring.

Kind regards,

Tania Garrelts
